We’re soon in the present with Witherspoon’s uptight single mother living in LA and her hookup turned bestie, Kutcher’s caddish man about town, in Brooklyn. The film then sees them staying in each other’s homes for a week – her so she can complete a college course and him so he can look after her son – and realising that, no prizes for guessing this one, that maybe they should be living in the same city. I can’t get too specific about why I gave this a 4 instead of a 5 without getting into spoilers, so I will just say that I didn’t love the way the romance actually started. By no means was it bad, it’s just not my preference. It felt like things got a little bit rushed at the end, but I did really adore the way the book ended so this was a really great read. Maybe the worst book I’ve ever read?? All the characters were unlikeable bar the dead one and I can’t believe I read the whole thing. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review* Your Place Or Mine is the travel podcast that isn’t going anywhere - not until guests can convince Shaun Keaveny it’s worth getting off the sofa for. Each week a familiar face will try to persuade Shaun and resident geographer, historian and comedian Iszi Lawrence that jetting off to their favourite destination is worth the hassle. Your Place or Mine” is an outrageously benign movie, which may not sound like much of a criticism. But it’s so benign it’s innocuous. There’s no tension, no comedy with any bite (except for the dry one-liners of Tig Notaro as the best friend who’s there to give advice), no romantic friction. Jesse Williams, as the book-publishing maestro, is stranded without repartee, and Kutcher doesn’t quite make Peter a character. He’s polite, self-regarding, and slightly grandiose, as if he were running a seminar. As for Witherspoon, she’s forced to play Debbie in a way that’s so compulsively other-directedthat the actor’s perkiness starts to seem like masochism. All of the romances in this book seemed to be purely physical. Most of the characters don’t talk to each other like normal functioning adults, and the only thing the characters cared about was banging each other. None of the characters had chemistry with each other, too, which made every romantic scene really uncomfortable for me. It was disappointing. Netflix dropped the first trailer for Your Place Or Mine on Thursday morning, and it seems the streamer is well-prepared to continue its streak of adorable romantic comedies. Serena and Ziggy were both such great characters to read about. They were both so well developed, as was their connection to each other. Not just romantically/physically, but in a friendly way as well. I was a bit nervous when I started the book, reading right at the beginning that Serena was dating someone, because sometimes I feel like I struggle to feel a connection between the main characters if one (or both) of them is initially with someone else, but I’m glad that wasn’t the case here. The whole cheating plot went on a bit longer than I would have liked. Speaking up would've been a lot easier than what Serena did to get him caught. Your Place or Mine? involves two different plotlines. One of them centers around Serena and Ziggy, who are two strangers that are forced into living in the same house while their friends are on vacation. They hate each other right off the bat, but some feelings rise up that start to change things. The other plot involves Serena trying to expose a cheater for the cheat that he is. When Serena and Ziggy are both offered a place to stay by their respective friends, neither realizes the other will be there. Ziggy is messy, has his friends over often and has claimed the best bedroom for himself. Serena puts up with it as much as she can but then decides the only way she will win is if she tries to push Ziggy out, embarking on a war between the two to see who will leave first.

This book was fun. I enjoyed the pranks the two played on each other but found it hard to believe when they became lovey dovey. One moment they were ready to kill each other with jokes, the next they were being affectionate with everything else forgotten. I believe the storyline would have been a bit more believable if there had been more of a build up to the relationship. I was surprised how much more there was going on in this book - don't let the synopsis fool you! There are a few other storylines thrown in that make it all that more addictive. If you're after a laugh out loud romcom with a bit more depth, you should consider giving this one a go. In other words, this is basically Trading Spaces, but as a romantic comedy. I’m in! Who is in the Your Place or Mine cast? The shoehorned attempts at putting feminism in the book were comical. Ziggy not caring about who she slept with and the bit about the adult shop felt so performative when the protagonist ended up settling for Ziggy and treated Lacey like that. JoJo Siwa Tells 'The View' What She Told Tom Sandoval On 'Special Forces': "Your Problems Are The Least Of Our Worries" The humor in this book wasn’t great either. The author tried too hard to make this book funny, which went so far as to make this book extremely unfunny. I was rolling my eyes and cringing nonstop at the “funny” scenes.
