About this deal

Miro, Imogen and Marie embark on a quest which tests their courage and friendship, with each character learning important lessons about themselves which change their outlook and behaviours. They learn to take responsibility for their own actions. They identify values they expect others to demonstrate and they consider whether they are living those values themselves. By the end of the story, we see that these children have transformed in numerous ways, becoming much more likeable characters. We want them to succeed and find happiness.

But what they find in the lands beyond will change everything again, and see them facing dangers they could never have imagined. With all the magic of Narnia and the humour of Mary Poppins, this is a future middle grade fantasy classic - and the beginning of an unforgettable journey... Suddenly, they are trapped and it’s all Marie’s fault. But on the other side of the gate, there is a new world, different to theirs. A world where they meet Miro, a boy dressed in weird clothes, claiming he is the prince of this kingdom. A kingdom, where dangers lurk at night. This is not a story for the faint-hearted! There are some rather gruesome details. The monsters like to “slice and dice” their victims. Prejudice and bigotry are demonstrated by some characters. I found the cruelty to animals confronting. The story and characters create many points for discussion which will make this a useful book in classrooms, libraries and at home. Reader notes or teaching notes would be useful.

This was one cute, little MG fantasy. Right from the title to the very plot, this beautiful story is quite enough to satiate one's appetite for more magical adventures and lost realms and kingdoms. So you can understand why I was overjoyed to discover that this book will in fact be a part of a trilogy! (I absolutely can't wait to be reunited with these characters 😍) Imogen and Marie are sisters who in the first book discovered a secret world and they return to this world called Yaroslav through the door in the tree to a whole new Yaroslav. Imogen and her little sister Marie are not perfect children. They fight and yell, and are rude and obnoxious to each other, to their mum and to their grandmother. These sisters, who become the heroes of the story, are introduced as rather tiresome and disagreeable characters.A fantastical adventure through a small door in a tree. This isnt Imogen and Maire's first time exploring beyond the realms of Earth this time though they are joined by the skeptical step father. Their journey begins with a magical moth and a skret but is soon left behind only to be greeted by an unusual witch, is she young or is she old? Partnered with the witch is an uptight wanna be queen. Upon hearing the witches prophecy that she will one day be queen and that Maria is somehow linked to that prophecy Anneshka sneaks away from the group with an unwilling Maria turning Imogen's world upside down. Imogen seeks out the the help of some her old friends but what they they find along the way is where the true magic of the story lies. Imogen is devastated when she finds out that her sister is kidnapped and she and Miro chase after them, in hot pursuit and makes new friends on the way. This was a really good sequel that I found to be better than the first book, it was more darker and suspenseful! For younger readers this does have mentions of murder, drowning, monsters, and kidnapping, but I found it thrilling to the story. The world is creative with flavours of Eastern Europe, described in smooth and easy storytelling to understand. The celestial poles are imaginary lines that trace the Earth’s rotation axis in space. The Earth has 2 celestial poles – the Northern Celestial Pole and the Southern Celestial Pole. These poles correspond to the North and the South Pole and therefore are inclined at an angle – around 23.4 degrees.
