About this deal

Maybe it is the depth of the characters, maybe the proportions of the tale but it simply does not compare to the trilogy.

The story itself revolves around a Lawman, Wax, who is both an Allomancer and a Feruchemist, a rare combination. They escape the explosion but Wayne is left badly burnt and so with little of his goldmind remaining.

By the end of the book, it's clear his reputation from the Roughs has started to spread in the City as well.

They're both disenfranchised groups who live outside of the law, but where the Skaa join for ideology and usually because they can't live a normal life, the Vanishers mostly join up for money, and one is encouraged to plead guilty and make an honest living. The vehicles everyone had used to arrive were arranged here in neat rows, the coachmen chatting in a few cozy rooms that spilled orange light into the mists. Before he’d left Weathering, he’d been starting to think it was getting too big, but there couldn’t have been ten thousand people in the town.

Lesser but richer House Harms ends up being one of his last hopes, and Steris is so aware of the obvious need for this trope, she spends their first meeting detailing her written contract, which outlines their courting period, eventual marriage, her financial planning, and allowances for the inevitable affairs. The tone is lighter and the there is much more humour than in the first trilogy, but the Allomancy is intriguing as ever and the plot keeps you riveted. Whilst this novel is fundamentally a detective work and not my usual cup of tea, I did enjoy it tremendously.Faking the Dead: Wax's uncle Edwarn Ladrian is not, as reported, dead of a carriage accident, nor did he gamble his house into deep debt - he embezzled all of House Ladrian's money to invest in a criminal enterprise, including Miles' gang, then faked his death so he could run the new organization from the shadows. Marasi Colms The "cousin" of Steris Harms who is actually the illegitimate daughter of Lord Harms and, therefore, half-sister to Steris. He dropped a bullet casing and launched himself high into the air, then landed atop the building across the street from the mansion. The time bubble created by a Slider is approximately five to fifteen feet across and is smaller than that possible while burning cadmium. The Gunslinger: Nearly all the main characters qualify, but Wax stands out for his Improbable Aiming Skills.
