Shel loves Jordan like a deadbeat mother and her gift is a subtle hint Jordan will spend the rest of her life working at this dive bar so she might as well get fat and drunk. I’ve read a lot of Penelope Douglas books, and I have to say, Birthday Girl is my favorite of hers to date. Her shift ends early and she is unable to reach Cole, her boyfriend, for a ride to their apartment, so she decides to catch the midnight matinee a block away until it is time for Cole to pick her up at 2am.p42 - According to Jordan, Pike “has almost as short of a fuse as his son” which is odd since Pike has never once shown anger or rage towards anyone or anything up to this point in the story.

For some bizarre reason, I haven’t picked up any Penelope Douglas book since I first read this 2 years ago.this book was so refreshingly coherent because you knew that both of the characters wanted the same thing out of life and that the story was going to reach those characters' shared goals. No matter what it is, Jordan is also a strong heroine who has proven that anything is possible when working hard for it and having a mindset of determination. It takes an immensely talented author to pull off a story like this without making it torrid, pervy and cringe worthy.
