About this deal

Birthday Girl is yet again another of her novels that has brought a new meaning to "forbidden," and has indulged in the aspect of age gap romance novels as well, the one thing that made me crave Pike in such a filthy, dirty, and un-moral way. She’s always had an old soul because she is wise beyond her years and she had to grow up pretty early because of her lifestyle when she was young. Teresa states “It takes conviction to do what you know you’re supposed to do regardless of what you want.

p54 - Pike says “I take in her flawless, smooth and tanned legs…” Jordan is not getting a tan anywhere near Chicago in April.

Shel loves Jordan like a deadbeat mother and her gift is a subtle hint Jordan will spend the rest of her life working at this dive bar so she might as well get fat and drunk. This was supposed to be a buddy read with my friend, Deidra, but the book was annoying me-- and not in a "so bad it's fun" way, but in an "OMG NOT THIS SHIT AGAIN" sort of way, so I ended up jumping ship at 12% because I'm a bad friend. While her sister has no problem supporting herself and young child by being a stripper, Jordan wants more. If she works in the afternoon, she’s not home and if she works nights she’s not waking up at 5:30am.

I’ve read a lot of Penelope Douglas books, and I have to say, Birthday Girl is my favorite of hers to date. Her shift ends early and she is unable to reach Cole, her boyfriend, for a ride to their apartment, so she decides to catch the midnight matinee a block away until it is time for Cole to pick her up at 2am.p42 - According to Jordan, Pike “has almost as short of a fuse as his son” which is odd since Pike has never once shown anger or rage towards anyone or anything up to this point in the story.

For some bizarre reason, I haven’t picked up any Penelope Douglas book since I first read this 2 years ago.this book was so refreshingly coherent because you knew that both of the characters wanted the same thing out of life and that the story was going to reach those characters' shared goals. No matter what it is, Jordan is also a strong heroine who has proven that anything is possible when working hard for it and having a mindset of determination. It takes an immensely talented author to pull off a story like this without making it torrid, pervy and cringe worthy.
